Linux Installation course details

A beginner's workshop aimed at those who wish to learn the advantages and benefits of GNU/Linux. Participants will install and base configure a system ready for desktop use.

On completion of this workshop, participants will be able to install a PC with a fully functional desktop system that includes a selective range of OpenSource applications. They will have also gained the basic skills needed to be able to use and improve their knowledge of a GNU/Linux system.

  • * Minimum System/Hardware Requirements.
  • * Harddisk formatting and partitioning.
  • * Different Filesystem types.
  • * Pre-Installation checks.
  • * Choosing base installation media.
  • * Base Installation procedure.
  • * Set-Up/Administration Tools (YAST)
  • * Selection of Applications.
  • * Hardware configuration.
  • * What is a root user?
  • * Configuring X-windows.
  • * Choice of Window Manager
  • * GRUB, dual-booting and log-ins.

An ideal starter for those with little or no experience of GNU/Linux and who wish to discover the current capabilities of the system for themselves in an environment where the system is in use 24/7.
